SUMMARY:AMCHP 2023 Virtual Workshop: Partnerships to Build Trusting Relationships With Fathers & Male Caregivers
DESCRIPTION:Parenting CYSHCN often requires intense engagement to maintain the health and well-being of their children. Positive paternal engagement strongly contributes to overall family well-being\, yet the individual needs and constraints of male caregivers of CYSHCN have not been consistently recognized. \nWorkshop participants will hear from a diverse panel of fathers on their relationship with their child with special health care needs\, the barriers they face to be active participants in supporting their child\, and what makes for a “father-friendly” environment. \nParent to Parent staff will offer strategies for MCH programs to become more inclusive of fathers through partnerships with community organizations and fathers themselves. \nLearn more about the 2023 AMCHP Annual Conference.

SUMMARY:November 2023 Coffee Talk: Autism Care – dedicated to the medical home philosophy
DESCRIPTION:Learn about a unique partnership between our New Jersey P2P Alliance Member\, SPAN\, and the medical community that provides more resources\, staffing and support for parents. Family organizations bring together lived experience\, the stories of many diverse families of children with disabilities and special healthcare needs\, knowledge and skills about reaching\, supporting and engaging families at all levels\, and improving systems. But we are always under-resourced! \nHow can we build our own capacity through partnering with professional associations\, healthcare providers and systems\, and others? \nLearn about how SPAN collaborates with multiple partners\, including the Autism Medical Home initiative at Meridian Health/Hackensack University Hospital\, to secure more resources to support and empower families. \nWith partners’ funding\, we are able to hire additional Family Resource Specialists (FRSs) that are housed in the community where families are. The FRSs are integrated into the workflow of the practices/partner organizations. Our partnership strengthens their ability to provide care to children and youth with autism and their families consistent with the components of the “medical home\,” i.e.\, care that is accessible\, compassionate\, continuous\, coordinated\, culturally sensitive\, and patient- and family-centered\, from early childhood through transition to adult systems of care. \nRegistration is required: Webinar Registration – Zoom
