Improving Access to Genetic Services:
A Regional Genetics Reference Guide to Needs Assessments and Community Partnerships

The Heartland Regional Genetics Network and the National Genetics Education and Family Support Center co-developed a reference guide to provide Regional Genetics Networks (RGNs) with tools, resources and real-world case studies for the purposes of conducting needs assessments and partnering with a wide range of patient communities.
RGNs can use this guide to help:
• Identify underserved populations and their specific barriers to genetic care.
• Develop culturally and linguistically appropriate practices that are respectful of diverse communities.
• Understand how to develop relationships with community partners and work together to conduct a needs assessment, as well as identify resources available to support these activities.
• Build on existing strengths within the network to expand upon strategies for working with diverse communities.
