Newsletter highlights:

Rise in Congenital Syphilis: Rates are increasing across the U.S. Transmission occurs from mother to baby during pregnancy or delivery; without early testing and treatment, it leads to severe health complications.

Significant Gaps in Care: Recent CDC data reveals that 33% of high-risk infants do not receive a full treatment course, and only 30% of infants with reactive blood tests receive the necessary follow-up care.

State-Level Partnerships: AAP chapters in Arizona and Arkansas have partnered with the CDC’s SET-NET to launch awareness campaigns, clinician toolkits, and educational resources to combat the surge.

Clinician Resources & Shortages: The AAP has released an interactive Evaluation and Treatment Guide and a new clinician toolkit. Additionally, guidance is provided regarding the ongoing Bicillin® L-A shortage.

Hearing & Developmental Support: The EHDI Provider Education Center published a 6-part series focused on supporting Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH) children through provider collaboration and early intervention.

Cannabis Education: A new webinar (hosted 4/20/26) aims to educate healthcare providers on the latest evidence regarding cannabis use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
